Following on from their successful tour of Dublin, Esher Bishops 7 a side Walking Rugby team travelled to Richmond to take them on. The game was a prelude to the Esher Friday night 1st Team game with Richmond in England Div 1.

The Esher Bishops kept up an exceptionally good defence and stopped Richmond on many occasions in the early moments of the game. Gradually finding space later in the game, the Bishops ran in 3 tries by Bob Dowler, Stuart Baldwin, and Nigel Price to win the game 3-0.

The second game featured a new Richmond side but the Bishops kept going with the same team. This time however both defences outshone attack and 0-0 was the final score.

In the third game a decision was made to play 10 a side. This time Richmond did score a try but Tony Murphy walked over to equal the score. Final score 1-1.

Just after the game finished we were walking past the hospitality suite and the Richmond Chairperson was welcoming Esher on the microphone. He also mentioned the walking rugby match but did not know the score, we banged on the window and gave Bob Stratton the numbers holding up three fingers to a round zero. Bob duly passing on the message to hilarious laughter, glad it was not 2-0 Bob.

Finally Esher Bishops and Richmond were both asked to form a guard of honour for both the 1st teams entrance on to the pitch for their evening match.

Esher Bishops thanked Richmond for their hospitality and celebrated their victory in the bar late into the evening.

If you interested in joining Walking Rugby we meet 9.45am on a Friday morning and 6.00pm on a Monday evening  for fun and games at the club. All are welcome.
